Spartans Bounce Back with 6-5 Come-From-Behind Victory Over Holy Family

Hackettstown, N.J. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball team got back on track from its tough four-game weekend series with Southern New Hampshire University by rallying to take a 6-5 non-conference decision from Holy Family University on Wednesday afternoon, in a neutral site game played at Centenary University in New Jersey.

STAC improves to 7-6 on the season, while slips to 6-11 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Top 2nd Inning - Will Cheatham flied out to right field on a sacrifice fly, with Zach Morales scoring. 1-0 HFU

Top 2nd Inning - Alex Camilo singled and Nick Lombardo advanced to third base and Chris Serrano scored. 2-0 HFU

Top 3rd Inning - Dylan Mercedes flied out to lef field on a sacrifice fly, with Isaac Criss advancing to third base and Nick Lombardo coming to the plate. 3-0 HFU

Btm 3rd Inning - Sean Lynch homered, with Gregory DiGiaro, Joseph Scamardella and C.J. Cumbo all scoring. 4-3 STAC

Top 4th Inning - Chris Serrano grounded out to second base, as Will Cheatham advanced to third base and Dalton Turner scored GAME TIED 4-4

Top 4th Inning - Nick Lombardo singled to center field, with Will Cheatham scoring. 5-4 HFU

Btm 4th Inning - Michael Zeis flied out to right field on a sacrifice fly with Sean Lynch being thrown out at second base via a relay from the right fielder to the second baseman to the shortstop. Meanwhile, Gregory DiGiaro and Joseph Scamardella both raced home. 6-5 STAC

STAC PERFORMANCES:

  • Sean Lynch went 1-for-4, but hit a grandslam homerun, while driving in four runs and scoring one on the afternoon.
  • Joseph Scamardella hit a double, while going 3-for-4 for the Spartans and scoring two runs.
  • C.J. Cumbo (1-for-4) smacked three hits in four at-bats and scored a run in the game.
  • Chris Ewing recorded a pair of base knocks and also drew a walk for his efforts.
  • STAC also received hits from Ben Moscatiello (1-for-4) and Kyle DeCresce (1-for-3)
  • Will Kindle got the start for STAC and pitched a perfect first inning, while striking out a Tigers hitter.
  • Relievers Bobby LeFevre, Jason Basilicata, Ryan Callaghan, Jeremiah Vega and Cole Lindquist were each called upon to help hold Holy Family off the scoreboard. The quintet combined to allow six hits and five runs over the middle seven innings, while walking two and K'ing eight. Jeremiah Vega earns his first win of the year for huring 2.1 perfect innings, while fanning two Tigers.
  • Kyle Rogers closed things out for the maroon and gold, getting his fourth save of the year, for throwing a scoreless scoreless ninth while also not allowing a hit.

FACTS & FIGURES:

  • The Spartans posted 6 runs on 11 hits, with no errors, while Holy Family earned 5 runs on 6 hits, with no errors.
  • STAC pitchers struck out 9 Tigers batters, while issuing 2 walks on the day.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas stranded 6 runners on base. Meanwhile Holy Family left 5 in the contest.
