STAC Baseball Gets Back On Track With 4-1 Victory Over No. 16 Molloy

Pomona, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball team got back on track Wednesday, snapping a four-game skid with a 4-1 conference victory over 16th ranked Molloy University at Clover Stadium.

STAC improves to 16-23 overall and 7-9 in ECC play, while Molloy slips to 30-10 and 12-4, and is handed its first loss in the last nine games.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Btm 3rd Inning - C.J. Cumbo singled to right-centerfield, scoring Billy Minett. 1-0 STAC

Btm 3rd Inning - Kyle DeCresce reached first base on a fielding error by the third baseman and then advanced to second base, with Sean Lynch advancing to third base and C.J. Cumbo making his way to the plate with an unearned run. 2-0 STAC

Btm 4th Inning - David Potenza singled to right-centerfield, moving Billy Minett to second base and scoring Gregory DiGiaro. 3-0 STAC

Btm 7th Inning - Sean Lynch reached on a fielder's choice and then advanced to second base on a throwing error by the second baseman, while Joseph Scamardella was called out at second base via a throw from the shortstop to the second baseman and C.J Cumbo advanced to third base and then the plate with an unearned run. 4-0 STAC

Top 8th Inning - Aidan Larkin singled to third base, scoring JJ DeVito. 4-1 STAC

STAC PERFORMANCES:

  • C.J. Cumbo went 3-for-3 on the day, with a double, while driving in a run and scoring twice. He was also walked once.
  • STAC also received multi-hit games from Billy Minett, who went 2-for-3 with a run scored and David Potenza, who went 2-for-2 with an RBI.
  • Sean Lynch (1-for-4) and Gregory DiGiaro (1-for-4, Run) also added to the hit totals for the Spartans.
  • John Archer got the start for STAC in the series finale on Wednesday and threw an inning and a third, allowing just a single before being removed from the mid-week contest. Archer was charged with a no-decision.
  • Bobby LeFevre came on in relief of Archer hurled 4.2 shutout innings, surrendering only two hits, while also fanning three Molloy hitters. LeFevre earned his third win in five decisions.
  • John Dezago and Kyle Rogers combined to pitch three innings out of the bullpen, trying to lockdown the win for the maroon and gold. Dezago allowed four hits and a run, while walking one and striking out two over 2.1 innings. Meanwhile, Rogers got the final two outs in the ninth to pick up his eighth save of the season.

  • The Spartans totaled 4 runs on 9 hits, with 3 errors, while Molloy earned 1 run on 7 hits, with 2 errors.
  • STAC pitchers struck out 5 Lions batters, while issuing just 1 walk on the day.
