Spartans Drop Doubleheader At D'Youville, 4-3 & 6-3

Buffalo, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball team hit the road for a four-game East Coast Conference weekend set with D'Youville University in Western New York. In doubleheader action on Friday, the Spartans suffered a sweep at the hands of the host Saints at Sal Maglie Stadium by the scores of 4-3 and 6-3.

STAC falls to 5-18 overall and 2-4 in ECC action, while D'Youville moves to 6-19 and 2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE): 

Top 4th Inning - Nick Oelcher doubled down the left field line, 2 RBI; Tyler Haydt scored; Anthony Dimarco scored. (2-0 STAC)

Bottom 4th Inning - Blaise Kolbert flied out to center field on a sacrifice fly, RBI; Alec Boucher advanced to third base; Jake Hollins scored. (2-1 STAC)

Top 5th Inning - Ryan Hillery singled to center field, RBI; David Potenza scored. (3-1 STAC)

STAC PERFORMANCES:

  • Ryan Hillery clubbed five hits in eight at-bats in the twin bill. Hillary also drove in one and scored once.
  • Anthony Dimarco went 3-for-8, with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored on the day. He was also walked once.
  • The Spartans also saw hits from Tyler Haydt (2-7, RBI, Run & Walk) and Chris Ewing (2-8), Michael Zeis (2-6), Ryan Appell (2-2, RBI), Nick Oelcher (2-6, 2B, 2 RBI & Walk), Joseph Scamardella (1-7, Run) & David Potenza (1-7, 2B & Run).
  • Andrew Alameda got the start in game one of Friday's twin bill and threw five innings, allowing two runs on four hits, while walking four and fanning four. Alameda was charged with a no-decision.
  • John Dezego was called upon from the bullpen for the final three innings for the Spartans, allowing three hits and two runs with three strikeouts. Dezego took the hard luck defeat and falls to 1-2 on the year.
  • Orin Winslow took the mound for game two and gave up four runs (one earned) on five hits over four and two-thirds innings of work, while walking two and K-ing three. Winslow was charged with the loss and slips to 0-5 on the season.
  • Reliever Lorent Hoti came on in the fifth inning and allowed two runs on three hits with a strikeout in one and a third innings on the mound.

  • The Spartans totaled 6 runs on 19 hits, with 1 errors, while D'Youville earned 10 runs on 15 hits, with three errors in the twin bill.
