Spartans Take Two From D'Youville, Split Four-Game Season Series

Buffalo, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball team wrapped up their four-game weekend series with D'Youville University on Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader with Saints at Sal Maglie Stadium by the scores of 15-6 and 6-5.

STAC improves to 7-18 overall and 4-4 in ECC play, while D'Youville falls to 6-21 and 2-2. The Spartans and Saints each took two games of the four-game East Coast Conference set in Western New York.

  • David Potenza went 3-for-9, with 2 RBI and 2 Runs Scored.
  • The Spartans also saw hits from Ryan Hillery (2-7, 3 Runs & 3 Walks), Joseph Scamardella (2-6, RBI, 2 Runs & 2 Walks), Charlie Cordisco (2-8, 2-2B, 4 RBI, Run & Walk) and Ryan Appell (1-4, 2B & Run).
  • Andrew Schoelles got the start in game one of Saturday's twin bill and pitched four and a third innings, allowing five runs on nine hits, while walking three and striking out two. Schoelles was charged with a no-decision.
  • Aidan Cardenas and Eliahs Delgado were each called upon from the bullpen for the final four and two-thirds innings for the Spartans, combining to allow four hits and a run with two walks and six strikeouts. Cardenas (1-0) earned his first win of the season on the strength of three and two thirds innings of work, giving up a run on four hits with two walks and five Ks.
  • Tom O'Neill took the mound for game two and gave up two runs on four hits over six innings of work, while walking one and K-ing four. O'Neill (2-3) pitched his way to his second win of the year.
  • Relievers Jeremiah Vega and Kyle Rogers came on for the final three innings and combined to surrender three runs on three hits with four walks and two strikeouts. Rogers picks up his second save of the year.

  • The Spartans totaled 21 runs on 26 hits, with one error, while D'Youville earned 11 runs on 20 hits, with five errors in the twin bill.
  • STAC pitchers struck out 14 Saints batters, while issuing 10 walks on the day.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas stranded 16 runners on base, while D'Youville left 17 in the doubleheader.
