
West Haven, Conn. - Playing their first games in the Northeast this season, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball team opened a four-game weekend series with the University of New Haven at Frank Vieira Field. The Spartan bats were silenced on Saturday afternoon, dropping both ends of a doubleheader 10-1 and 1-0.
STAC drops to 3-11 on the season, while New Haven improves to 8-3.

STAC PERFORMANCES:
- Joseph Scamardella (1-3, Walk) and Alex Celeiro (1-3, Run) recorded a pair of singles for the Spartans in the opener.
- David Potenza went 1 for 2 in game two, with a double for the maroon and gold.
- Andrew Alameda got the start in game one of Saturday's twin bill and lasted just 3.2 innings, allowing seven runs (five earned) on six hits, while walking three. Alameda took the loss and moves to 1-3 on the year.
- Christian Varela and Anthony Holtje were each summoned from the bullpen for the final 4.1 innings for the Spartans and surrendered two hits and three runs (two earned). They also combined to walk three Chargers hitters.
- Orin Winslow took the mound for game two and gave up just a single run on three hits over 6.0 innings of work, while walking two and K-ing four. Winslow was charged with the hard luck loss and slips to 0-3 on the season.
