Extra Innings Runs Doom St. Thomas Aquinas In 9-8 Loss To Wilmington

Cary, N.C. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball team dropped its fifth straight contest on Saturday afternoon, falling to Wilmington University (Del.) 9-8 in 11 innings at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.

STAC falls to 2-9 overall, while Wilmington gets back to the .500 mark at 5-5.

STAC PERFORMANCES:

  • Chris Ewing recorded two hits in four at-bats with a double and a triple. He also drove in five runs and walked once.
  • Nick Oelcher went 2-for-4, with three runs scored and a walk.
  • The Spartans also saw hits from Anthony Dimarco (2-6, Double, RBI), Kyle DeCresce (2-6, RBI), Michael Zeis (1-4, Triple, RBI, Run, Walk), Tyler Haydt (1-4, Run), Alex Celeiro (1-4, 2 Runs, Walk) and David Potenza (1-3, Double, Run) in Saturday's contest.
  • Andrew Schoelles got the start for the maroon and gold and gave up four runs (three earned) on seven hits over six innings of work, while walking one and fanning five Wildcats. Schoelles picked up a no-decision.
  • Ricardo Gonzalez, John Dezago and Kyle Rogers combined to allow five runs (two earned) on six hits, with two walks and six strikeouts in 4.2 innings of relief. Rogers (1-1) took the loss as a result of allowing three unearned runs with a walk and two strikeouts over the final two innings.

  • The Spartans totaled 8 runs on 12 hits, with 3 errors, while Wilmington earned 9 runs on 13 hits, with no errors.
  • STAC pitchers struck out 11 Wildcats batters, while issuing 3 walks on the day.
