Spartans Settle For Twin Bill Split With #7 West Chester

Cary, N.C. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball team returned to action on Friday, splitting a doubleheader with #7 ABCA Ranked West Chester University at USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary. STAC was no-hit in the opener for a 6-0 defeat, before taking the second game 4-3 in eight innings.

STAC moves to 2-4 on the season, while West Chester improves to 4-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE): 

Top 1st Inning - Austin Stalker singled up the middle, RBI; Sean Szestowicki scored. (1-0 WCU)

Top 2nd Inning - Shane Adamski homered to left field, 2 RBI; John Dunion scored. (3-0 WCU)

Top 6th Inning - John Dunion homered to left-center field, 2 RBI; Darius Troche scored. (5-0 WCU)

Top 7th Inning - Avery Spencer singled to center field, RBI; Sean Szestowicki scored. (6-0 WCU)

Bottom 1st Inning - Austin Stalker grounded into double play shortstop to second base to first base; Avery Spencer out on the play; Sean Szestowicki advanced to third base; Jake Welsch scored. (1-0 WCU)

Top 3rd Inning - Chris Ewing singled to left field, 2 RBI; C.J. Cumbo advanced to second base; David Potenza scored; Ryan Appell scored. (2-1 STAC)

STAC PERFORMANCES:

  • Ewing clubbed two hits in five at-bats in the twin bill. He also drove in two runs and walked once.
  • Anthony Dimarco went 2-for-4, with a double in game two, while tallying a run scored.
  • The Spartans also saw hits from Brian Klumpp (1-6, RBI), Joseph Scamardella (1-7) and Ryan Appell (1-6, Run).
  • Andrew Alameda got the start in game one of Friday's twin bill and threw 6.0 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits, while fanning two. Alameda took the loss and moves to 1-1 on the season
  • Anthony Holtje was summoned from the bullpen for the final inning for the Spartans, allowing just two hits and a run.
  • Andrew Schoelles took the mound for game two and gave up three runs on eight hits over 5.2 innings of work, while K-ing one. Schoelles was charged with a no-decision.
  • Reliever Kyle Rogers came on in the sixth inning and allowed two hits and no runs, while walking two and striking out three in 2.1 innings to earn his first win (1-0) of the season for the maroon and gold.

  • The Spartans totaled 4 runs on 7 hits, with no errors, while West Chester earned 9 runs on 20 hits, with 1 error in the twin bill.
  • STAC pitchers struck out 6 Golden Rams batters, while issuing 2 walks on the day.
