The St. Thomas Aquinas College baseball team dropped two games in their Myrtle Beach, SC, road trip, losing by a 17-1 count against the University of New Haven and falling to Wilmington University, 14-3. The Spartans fall to 0-3 on the young season with one game remaining in their weekend set.

STAC opened the day against New Haven in a rematch from last season's NCAA Tournament, in which the Spartans prevailed. The result was different this time, as Billy Huber's three-run second inning homer capped a four-run inning, with the Chargers tacking on one in the third and two in the fourth to open a 7-0 lead. After suffering a 2-0 shutout in their opener against Franklin Pierce, the Spartans scored their first run of the season in the fifth when Anthony Maisano's double plated Angelo Baez.

That would not be nearly enough, however, as six STAC pitchers combined to allow 12 earned runs on 15 hits with Baez recording three hits and Michael Morgan adding two to account much of the St. Thomas Aquinas offense. Iziya Mestre worked eight strong innings to pick up the win and Matt Chamberlain knocked in seven runs as New Haven improved to 2-1 on the young season.

In the nightcap, the Spartans did not fare much better, with Wilmington plating two runs in the second and one in the third to grab an early 3-0 lead. STAC challenged in the home third as an RBI double by Morgan brought in John Greeley to cut the gap to 3-1, but the Spartans stranded the potential tying runs in scoring position. The Wildcats pulled away from there, bringing home nine runs over the next three innings to pull away for the win to remain perfect at 3-0.

Greeley and Morgan each drove in runs in the eighth to round out the scoring for STAC, which had just six hits for the game. Dakota Graham and Brooks Ryan registered three hits each for the Wildcats, with Dan Hyatt tossing six innings for the win.

The Spartans wrap up their weekend at the Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, taking on Southern New Hampshire University in a 9:00 am start. They then return home and will play a three-game weekend set at Adelphi University, with a double-header on Saturday, March 2, and a single game on Sunday, March 3.
