Spartans Top Lions, 2-1

The St. Thomas Aquinas field hockey team beat Molloy College, 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. Alexandra Vippolis and Louise Richardson each scored for the Spartans.

Vippolis notched her second goal of the season, scoring for the Spartans just eight minutes into the game off a pass from Carley Davin.  The Spartans received a second goal, which ended up being the game winning goal, from Richardson off a penalty stroke towards the end of the first half.  Molloy countered with a goal from Jessica Waszcak just two minutes later off a corner.  The Spartans held a 14-1 shot advantage over the Lions in the first half.

Both teams played solid defense in the second half as the Lions goalie Arianna Ovadia finished the game with eighteen saves.  Jessica Stewart had no saves in the win allowing just the single goal as the Spartans outshot the Lions 32-2.
