The St. Thomas Aquinas field hockey team lost 4-2 on Wednesday afternoon.
The home team scored the first three goals of the game; two coming in the first half. Down 3-0, Briannah Thorne scored off an assist from Taylor Hickey to put the Spartans on the scoreboard. Five minutes later Arielle Rodriguez scored off an assist from Kaylee Pistner to bring the Spartans within one.
Jessica Maier scored her second goal of the game to stretch the Owls lead to 4-2 and give the host the victory. Southern held a slight advantage 19-17 in shots while the Spartans had a 9-5 advantage in penalty corners.
Suzanne Clarke and Kaitlyn Gee shared minutes in goal recording 5 and 4 saves respectively. The Spartans will return to action on Sunday when they play at St. Michael's. Game time is slated for noon.
