Spartan Field Hockey Suffers 2-0 Shutout Loss to Mercy College in ECC Semi-final
The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Field Hockey team was eliminated by #2 seed Mercy College, 2-0, in the semi-final of the inaugural East Coast Conference Tournament. The third-seeded Spartans wrap up the 2018 season at 4-14. Mercy, improves to 5-12 and advances to Friday's championship final against top-seeded Molloy College.

In first half action, Brooke Anthony opened the scoring for the Mercy on a deflection of an Angela Robbins pass off of a penalty corner a little over eleven and a half minutes in, to give the home team the 1-0 lead. That was all of the scoring for the opening period of play, with the Mavericks also holding a 6-4 shots advantage over the Spartans.

The final stanza saw both teams have several quality scoring chances, with the Spartans having the better of the play in the half. However, the Mavericks held onto their slim lead and were able to double it with just under forty seconds left in the match, as Briannagh Smith put the final dagger past goalie Suzanne Clark to give Mercy a commanding 2-0 lead, and ultimately the victory.

Spartan keeper Suzanne Clarke made 5 saves on the afternoon, while Julia Amell and Cheradyn Pettit worked a half each for Mercy with Amell making 3 saves and Pettit making 4.

The Mavericks held a slight 11-10 shots advantage, and an 8-6 edge on penalty corners.
