Lions Score in Overtime to Beat Spartans, 5-4

The St. Thomas Aquinas field hockey team lost to Molloy College, 5-4 in overtime on Wednesday evening. Briannah Thorne scored two of the Spartans four goals.

Jacqueline Dowling scored her second goal of the season to put the Spartans on the scoreboard first, 1-0.  Dowling's goal came a little over a minute into the action aff an assist by Kaylee Pistner.  The visitor's were able to even things up off a goal from Kyra Dalli.  

Briannah Thorne scored back to back goals for the Spartans; one assisted by Dowling.  Molloy had the first goal of the second half to bring themselves within one.  Kaitlyn Gutenberger responded for the Spartans scoring the home teams final goal of the game to give them a 4-2 lead.  

The Lions made a late run and were able to finish out the game with a pair of gaols from Zoe Norton to even things up, 4-4.  The visitor were able to edge off the Spartans off a sudden death overtime goal from Nadia Elcock.  

Molloy held a slight 16-13 lead in shots and 9-7 in penalty corners.  Suzanne Clarke recorded one save in the loss.  The Spartans will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Stonehill for a 1:00 p.m. game.
