Field Hockey Drops Match at Saint Anselm, 4-1

Manchester, N.H. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Field Hockey team fell to Saint Anselm College by a 4-1 margin on Saturday Afternoon at Grappone Stadium in Manchester. Erin Bacalles scored the lone goal for the Spartans.

Saint Anselm moves to 7-2 overall and 5-1 in the NE10, while STAC falls to 1-7, 0-4 NE10.

The host Hawks had a 22-4 advantage in shots and a 7-2 edge in corners for the match.

Shots in the first quarter were even at one apiece with no scoring. In the second quarter, Saint Anselm was able to get onto the scoreboard via an Andrea McNeil unassisted tally off of a blocked initial shot that rolled out to the top of the slot for McNeil to put home to make it 1-0.

In the third quarter, the Hawks would score twice, as first Carly Lacasse would collect a deflected shot near the right post and slip it past STAC keeper Jessie Hohenstein to increase the lead to 2-0. Moments later Lacasse would tally her second of the afternoon on a long shot that was tipped into teammate Maggie Malloy, who would then pass it off to Lacasse at the right post to be pushed past Hohenstein to make it 3-0 Saint Anselm.

The fourth quarter began in earnest, as STAC would finally break the shutout on a Erin Bacalles strike on a rebound at the far-side of the net that would get past Hawks goalie Sidney Falterer to make the game 3-1. However, in the closing minute of the match, Maddie Davis would put Saint Anselm up by three at 4-1 on a rebound goal inside the left post to end the scoring and give the hosts their fourth consecutive victory.

St. Thomas Aquinas will travel across the Hudson River to take on Mercy College on Wednesday, October 6 at 3pm. The contest will be the Spartans and Mavericks second matchup of the season, with this one being a conference clash.
