Late Goal the Difference-Maker in Spartans 1-0 Loss to Stonehill

Sparkill, N.Y. - A fourth quarter tip-in goal was the difference in the St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Field Hockey team's 1-0 loss to Stonehill College on Saturday morning at Spartan Field in Sparkill.

The teams initially battled through 45 minutes of scoreless hockey over three quarters of play. Goalkeeper Jessie Hohenstein came up with eight saves early on, making her presence known in her fourth start of the season. Lauren Cooper and Erin Bacalles combined to tally STAC's three shots in the contest.

A majority of the match's action came in the final quarter of play, as the Skyhawks registered five shots. Then, with just under 10 minutes remaining, off of a Stonehill Penalty Corner by Claudia Crowe, Raegan Hickey was able to fire a shot that was tipped in by teammate Emily Ledoux to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

STAC tried its best to gain possession of the ball in the final minutes of the contest, in an attempt to tie the score. However, Stonehill would keep possession and rattle off two additional shots, while running out the clock to claim victory.
