Beune Records Two Goals, Two Assists As STAC Beats New Haven 4-2

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Field Hockey team ran its current win-streak to four games, with a 4-2 victory over the University of New Haven on Tuesday afternoon at Spartan Field.

STAC improves to 7-6 overall and 5-3 in the NE10, while UNH drops to 7-7 and 7-2.

The Spartans got a pair of goals from Floortje Beune, while Sofia Corominas Cuen and Kelly Johnson also scored for STAC. The Spartans dominated play throughout most of the game, holding the advantage in shots (15-4) and penalty corners (10-3).

After a quiet first half of action, where St. Thomas Aquinas earned a 5-1 margin in shots over the first 30 minutes, the hosts in maroon and gold came out of the break and quickly tallied twice.

Off of a penalty corner, a pass from Floortje Beune would find the stick of Sofia Corominas Cuen, who fired a shot at Chargers keeper Keira Integlia, which was saved but not corralled. Corominas Cuen was able to regain possession of the ball and send a rebound off of the goal post and into the cage to make it 1-0 Spartans.

Moments later, STAC would double its lead on another penalty corner, with Hailey Galison sending an insert to teammate Jasmijn Van Drunen who directed a strike toward the net and had it tipped home by Beune for 2-0 advantage.

New Haven cut the deficit in half with just under five minutes to go in the third quarter, as Audrey Larson would get the ball past Spartan keeper Jessie Hohenstein durng a netmouth scramble, with help from Sophie Schreck to make it 2-1.

Fourth quarter action saw STAC get another early goal, as a Floortje Beune blast off of a penalty corner would be directed home by Kelly Johnson to increase the lead to 3-1.

Beune's second goal on the afternoon came almost four minutes later, with Jasmijn Van Drunen's shot off of another penalty corner being tipped into the cage by the Weesp, Netherlands native to extend the STAC advantage to 4-1.

The final goal of the match came in the closing seconds by New Haven, when Johannah Lee directed a shot on frame, with Audrey Larson finding Bryanna Courneen for the tap-in tally.
