STAC Field Hockey Falls at Saint Anselm, 4-1

Manchester, N.H. - Back on the road for their seventh contest in first ten games, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Field Hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to Saint Anselm College on Saturday afternoon at Grappone Stadium.

STAC falls to 0-10 overall and 0-5 within the NE10, while Saint Anselm improves to 8-2 and 4-1.

Amanda Lewandowski (2), Laurentien van den Akker, and Millie Forster tallied goals for the Hawks, with Nicola Van Vuuren (6th) scoring the lone goal for the Spartans.

In the cage, Madeline Schaefer (L, 0-4) got the start for the maroon and gold and made four stops on eight shots faced. Mackenzie McConnell (W, 8-2) stopped all three shots she faced for Saint Anselm, before being replaced by teammate Sidney Falterer for the final six minutes of action. Falterer made two saves on three shots.

How it Happened

  • Second Quarter - Off of a penalty corner, a Maddie Davis shot was tipped past Madeline Schaefer at the right post by Laurentien van den Akker to make it 1-0 Saint Anselm.
  • Second Quarter - Amanda Lewandowski tallied the first of her two goals on a Penalty Stroke, beating Schaefer with a high shot to the top left corner of the cage to double the Hawks lead at 2-0.
  • Fourth Quarter - Lewandowski would pick up her second of the contest on the man-advantage, taking a pass from teammate Ava Rayfield and ripping a wide open shot past Madeline Schaefer to put Saint Anselm up 3-0.
  • Fourth Quarter - The final Hawks goal came late in the match, as a direct penalty corner pass by Stephanie Sutton-Brown found the stick of Millie Forster, who rifled a hot shot to the back of the cage to make it 4-0.
  • Fourth Quarter - STAC finally broke the shutout in the late seconds of the contest, with Nicola Van Vuuren drilled an penalty corner pass from Katelyn Cerrato past Sidney Falterer to cut the deficit to 4-1.
