Late Goal Allows AIC to Slip Past STAC, 2-1

Sparkill, N.Y. - Despite battling through tough weather conditions and outshooting their opponents by a 19-3 margin, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Field Hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision to American International College on Saturday at Spartan Field.

STAC falls to 0-8 overall and 0-3 in the NE10, while AIC improves to 5-2 and 2-1.

Senior Adriana Alfisi (4th) tallied the lone goal for the Spartans, while Mayra Bok and Mia Wood stuck for the Yellow Jackets goals. In the cage, AIC's Taylor Wildes (W, 5-2) stopped 13 of 14 shots faced to outduel STAC's Madeline Schaefer (L, 0-2), who made one stop.

How it Happened

  • 1st Quarter - Off of a penalty corner pass by Katelyn Cerrato, Nicola Van Vuuren would stickhandle and then find teammate Adriana Alfisi with a feed that was rocketed past Taylor Wildes and to the back of the net to make it 1-0 STAC.
  • 2nd Quarter - American International would knot the game at 1-1 on a penalty corner feed by Rylee Constant that found the stick of Mayra Bok, who fired a shot on target, beating Madeline Schaefer low to the stick side.
  • 4th Quarter - On a Spartans turnover, the visiting Yellow Jackets would march down the field, beating several defenders in the process. A bouncing ball would then find the stick of Mia Wood, who would beat Schaefer for the game-winning goal to make it 2-1 American International.
