Van Vuuren's OT Tally Powers STAC to 1-0 Shutout Victory Over Adelphi

Sparkill, N.Y. - Nicola Van Vuuren's overtime, game winning goal broke a scoreless tie and sent the St. Thomas Aquinas College Field Hockey team to a thrilling 1-0 victory over Adelphi University on Wednesday afternoon at Spartan Field.

The Spartans move to 1-10 overall and 1-5 in the NE10 with the win, while the Panthers slip to 4-6 and 3-3.

In a game filled with individual defensive battles, the netminders for both teams also came up huge. STAC goalie Madeline Schaefer turned away all five shots that she faced in regulation, including a massive stick save on a second quarter penalty stroke by former Spartan Kelly Johnson. Adelphi goaltender Amanda Montiel was equally as impressive, stopping all but the overtime game-winner (10 saves on 11 shots).

How it Happened
