Spartans Struggle In 9-3 Loss At Adelphi

Garden City, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Field Hockey team hit the road on Wednesday evening, visiting Adelphi University at Motamed Field. The host Panthers would net four first half goals en route to 9-3 victory over the Spartans.

STAC slips to 1-10 over and 0-6 in NE10 play, while Adelphi improves to 4-7 and 4-2.

Amanda Lee and Emiline Biggin each tallied a pair of goals for Adelphi, while teammates Ali Nagy, Lana Mignon De Wet, Kylie Peregoy, Jillian Riche and Sydney Flores also added to the Panthers totals on the scoreboard with a goal each. Meanwhile, Madelief Heijmans, Phileine Langeveld and Nicola Van Vuuren netted a goal apiece for St. Thomas Aquinas.

In the cage, Tayla Szmak (W, 4-7) got the start for the Panthers and allowed two goals on three shots in a little over 51 minutes of action, before Justina Cavallaro was called upon to finish the final eight plus minutes of the match. Cavallaro allowed a goal on the only shot that she saw. Madeline Schaefer (L, 1-5) started in net for the Spartans and made 2 stops on 8 shots over the first three quarters of play, before being spelled by Ailsa Ogilvie, who made 3 saves on 6 shots in the final frame.
