West Haven, Conn - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Field Hockey team began a three-match road trip on Monday evening, first visiting the University of New Haven for an NE10 clash at Ralph F. DellaCamera Stadium. A four-goal first half propelled the hosts to a 5-1 victory over the Spartans.
STAC slips to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in the NE10, while UNH improves to 3-3 and 2-0.
Erin Smith, Johanna Lee, Kat Trammel, Sydney Moda and Paige Garrett each tallied goals for the Chargers. Phileine Langeveld scored her second goal of the season, when a rebound from a Madelief Heijmans shot found the stick of teammate Nicola Van Vuuren, who sent a pass across the front of the cage for Langeveld to tuck home to put STAC on the scoreboard in the third quarter.
In goal, Cara Lambert (W, 3-1) got the start for New Haven and allowed one goal on eight shots faced. Meanwhile, Madeline Schaefer (L, 1-4) got the call for the Spartans and made one stop on five shots in 30 minutes of action. Ailsa Ogilvie took over in net to start the second half and made two saves on three shots faced.
