
Sparkill, N.Y. - Despite not surrendering a goal in the first half of Saturday's match, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Field Hockey team suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of No. 6 ranked Assumption University at Spartan Field.
STAC falls to 4-12 overall and 3-8 in NE10 action, while Assumption improves to 13-3 and remains perfect in conference play at 11-0.
Julia Carbone tallied a pair of goals for the visiting Greyhounds, while Carolina McSweeney also added a goal. Paige Gillette (W, 13-3) got the start in goal for Assumption and turned aside one of two shots faced to win her 13th match in 16 tries.
Meanwhile, STAC's lone goal game in the final seconds of the contest as Gianna Sacco took a cross-field feed from Hailey Galison and fired it past an unsuspecting Gillette to break the shutout. Madeline Schaefer (L, 3-7) got the call for the Spartans in net and made eight stops on 11 shots.
