Field Hockey Falls To Bentley, 5-1

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Field Hockey team opened its 2024 Northeast-10 schedule on Saturday by facing off with Bentley University at Spartan Field. Bentley tallied three first-half goals to race past STAC 5-1.

STAC falls to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in NE10 play, while Bentley improves to 2-4 and 1-0.

McKenzie Carey, Libby Harrison, Meagan Hayes, Hannah Blomquist and Lida Coco each netted goals for the visiting Falcons. Hailey Galison tallied her second goal of the season, when Madelyn Verstraten was able to redirect a Katelyn Cerrato shot to the stick of Galison for the tap home to put STAC on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter.

In the cage, Erin McGuinness (W, 1-1) got the start for Bentley and only allowed a single goal on 13 shots faced. Meanwhile, Madeline Schaefer (L, 1-3) got the nod for the Spartans and made six stops on 11 shots.

  • Bentley outshot STAC by a slim 16-15 margin (14-11 STAC on goal), while the maroon and gold earned a 14-7 penalty corners advantage over the Falcons in the match.
