Field Hockey Shut Out By Southern Connecticut State, 2-0

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Field Hockey team suffered a 2-0 non-conference shutout loss to Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday afternoon at Spartan Field.

STAC falls to 0-3 overall while Southern Connecticut improves 1-2 on the year.

St. Thomas Aquinas outshot Southern Connecticut State 11-9, with the hosts also ahead 7-5 in shots on goal. Taylor Leckey and Isabella Taylor tallied the goals for the visiting Owls in the match.

Nicola Van Vuuren led the limited STAC offensive opportunities, tallying seven shots, with six going on goal. Southern Connecticut goalie Rachel Miller (W, 1-2) turned away seven shots faced to pick up her first win of the campaign.

Madeline Schaefer (L, 0-1) got the start in the cage for the Spartans stopped 3 of 5 shots faced on the day.
