Sparkill, N.Y. - After an extensive search, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Athletics Department and Director of Athletics Margaret Alaimo have announced the hiring of Joshua Maurer to serve as the first-ever Women's Flag Football Head Coach.
Maurer arrives in Sparkill after spending the last two seasons as the Director of Scouting for the University of New Hampshire and Tennessee Tech football programs, where he has been involved in creating processes for evaluating recruits, including analyzing prospects and developing a recruiting database and a grading system.
"We are excited to welcome Josh to St. Thomas Aquinas College and our Spartan Family," stated STAC Director of Athletics Margaret Alaimo. " We are confident in Josh's ability to bring in our first class of Flag Football student-athletes and aid in their development on and off of the field. His prior experiences at several prestigious institutions will be a great asset for our program. We are excited about this newest NCAA Emerging Sport and having Josh at the helm."
Coach Maurer's extensive football knowledge and recruiting experience has also taken the Rockland County native to stops at Cornell University (2022-23) and the College of the Holy Cross (2019-20), where he organized and coordinated major recruiting events, watched film on prospects to analyze their ability/fit with respective programs and managed all on-campus visits.
Additionally, Maurer worked for the National Football League (2020-21), where he assisted with Game Statistics and Information System support by logging NCAA football game video and providing statistics and film to all 32 NFL teams on prospects of all levels (D1A to D3). He also reviewed NFL games for statistical correctness and omissions, while compiling weekly reports for training and development of gameday stat personnel.
Maurer's passion for football brought him to Army West Point in 2017 as a Player Personnel Intern, where he assisted with recruiting efforts and the team's social media activities.
Maurer graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Policy and Administration and completed his Master of Science Degree in Sports Management at Columbia University in 2022.
"It’s an honor to be in this role at St Thomas Aquinas College," said Coach Maurer. "Thank you so much to Margaret Alaimo, Rayven Johnson, Dassin Blackwell and the rest of the Spartan Athletics team for this opportunity. As someone who grew up in Rockland County and was introduced to football through flag, I am excited to grow the game at STAC."
