The St. Thomas Aquinas golf team won the Goldey Beacom Invitational with a team low score of 300.  Junior Chris Fitzpatrick won his third straight tournament on Monday with an impressive round of 70 (even par) in wet and foggy conditions.

Fitzpatrick played his first 7 holes at 2-under in thick fog and steady rain.  After 2 bogeys, Fitzpatrick went into the par-4 18th hole even on his round.  After an errant tee shot that hit a tree, Fitzpatrick found himself deep in the woods with only a small window to play through. The junior promptly hit a perfect low, hooking shot that took two bounces and rolled to 8 feet of the hole.  Fitzpatrick safely 2-putt and secured his third straight tournament victory for the spring season.

Sophomore Mike Gunderson played a steady round of golf in the difficult conditions posting a stellar 74. Gunderson finished his day with 13 pars leaving him with a 5th place finish.  Freshman Nick Delango continued his strong play carding a round of 76 while Sean Campbell shot an 80.

The Spartans shot a team score of 300 which gives the team their second tournament victory of the spring and 13 head-to-head victories over many top regional opponents. The team is back in action this Wednesday for a tri-match with Nyack and Dominican at Blue Hill G.C. in Pearl River, NY.
