The St. Thomas Aquinas golf team finished in 16th place after the first round of the NCAA Division II National Championship, at The Cardinal Club in Simponville, Ky. Mike Gunderson led the Spartans with a 2-under par, 70 in his opening round, tying him for 5th place. Nick Delango and Thomas Linehan each shot 74, to help keep the Spartans in the mix.
The Spartans shot a team score of 300, 10 strokes behind the top team, Barry University. John Casey and Jay Barry each shot 83 in round one. The Spartans will be back in action tomorrow for the second round.
