Spartans Finish 18th in NCAA Tournament

The St. Thomas Aquinas men's golf team finished in 18th place in the NCAA Division II National Championship at The Cardinal Club in Simponville, Ky.  Thomas Linehan and Mike Gunderson had solid performances finishing +9 and +10 in their three rounds.

The Spartans shot their best score of 301 in their opening round putting them in 16th place behind a 2-under par, 70 from Gunderson.  Linehan shot a team low, 73 on day two as the Spartans finished the day at 310 as a team.  Senior John Casey shot his best round on the second day as well, carding a 76. 

Linehan and Gunderson shot 77 and 78 respectively on the final round and the team finished at 319.  Chico State was in 1st place after the 3-rounds of team play with a shooting 13-under par.  The top 8 teams headed into two days of match play to finish out the championship. 

The Spartans have been to the NCAA Championship for four consecutive years under head coach Stephen Ferrara.  STAC will lose three seniors to graduation; Jay Barry, John Casey and Mike Gunderson.  Casey has help the Spartans reach the championship all four years while Gundertson has been with the squad for the past three years.
