Former Spartan Finishes 2nd in Massachusetts Open Championship

St. Thomas Aquinas alumni, Chris Fitzpatrick, finished in 2nd place in the 104th Massachusetts Open Championship last week.  Fitzpatrick, a four year standout on the Spartan golf team, shot 73, 69, 69, finishing 5-under for the tournament and forcing the 17th playoff in the history of the event.

Fitzpatrick was the early leader in the clubhouse after shooting 3-under in his final round.   The Dedham, MA. fell short losing to good friend, Evan Harmeling in a three hole playoff, after Harmeling birdied the final two playoff holes.  Fitzpatrick helped guide the Spartans to three consecutive NCAA tournament appearances before graduating in 2011 and going on to turn pro the summer of 2012.

"I am very proud to see Chris start to reach his potential as a golfer, commented Spartan coach Stephen Ferrara.  He spent this past summer in Florida fine tuning his wedge play and his hard work is paying off.  I am expecting big things out of his this summer and in the upcoming fall/winter series."
