The St. Thomas Aquinas Men's golf team finished second in their first event of the 2013 spring season. Niklas Koerner led the Spartans with a two day score of 147 shooting; 72, 75, which was good for an 2nd place finish overall.
On day one, the Spartans were led by Sophomore Koerner who carded a round of 72. Freshmen Kai Rastetter and Chris Gentle posted rounds of 74 and 76 respectively while senior Nick Delango rounded out the team scoring with a score of 77. With a team score of 299, the Spartans sat in first place by 2 strokes over Wilmington University after round 1.
On day two the teams battled cold and windy conditions. Koerner led the charge again with a team low round of 75 for a two day score of 147 (72-75) good for a 2nd place finish in the 72 man field. Kai Rastetter managed to post a score of 78 for a 152 total (74-78) and a T-4 place finish. Senior Nick Delango grinded all day, but finished with a tough triple bogey on his last hole to card a round of 82 and finish in a T-18 (77-82). Junior Tommy Linehan battled back from his 6-over through 6 holes start to post a round of 78 which was good for a tie with Delango in 18th place (81-78). Freshman Chris Gentle finished T-23 after a tough day on the links with a score of 85 (76-85). With a team score of 313, the Spartan golf team fell to Wilmington University by 7 shots who posted a solid team score of 304.
The Spartans will be back in action this weekend at the St. James Plantation Invitational in Southport, NC.
