Spartans Finish 2nd at NCAA Super Regionals, Advancing to NCAA Championship

The St. Thomas Aquinas men's golf team finished in 2nd place at the 2014 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Atlantic/East Super Regional.  The Spartans were tied for 3rd after their opening round and then went on to secure 1st place after a school record breaking 11-under par second round.  STAC struggled a little in their final round however set themselves nicely for a second place finish and a trip to the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship.  

Kai Rastetter finsihed tied for 7th place in the event after shooting a team low 74 in his final round. Rastetter struggled with his putter during his final round however his nine birdies over the course of his first two rounds kept among the top 10 competitors. The junior shot a three day score of, 216.

Senior Thomas Linehan finsihed as STAC's second place scorer with a three day total of, 219.  Linehan came bounced back with birdies on the 17th and 18th holes to card a 76 on day three.  Linehan had 11 birdeis during the event.  

Brendan Hunter and Niklas Koerner finished with three day totals of, 220.  Both were instrumental in STAC's success after back to back strong rounds on Monday and Tuesday.  Kevin Gately stayed consistent carding three rounds of 75 to keep the Spartans in good standings.  

"We are excited to get back to the Nationals," remarked 8th year head coach Stephen Ferrara.  "The team prepared themselves from the minute we arrived at the course and it showed itself out there.  We had a great overall week."

The Spartans return to the NCAA Championship for the 5th time in the programs history.  The NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship is being held May 19-23, at the Meadows Golf Course in Allendale, Michigan.
