Spartans In 6th Place After Second Round

The St. Thomas Aquinas golf team dropped to 6th place after the 2nd round of the  2015 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships.  STAC went into the round tied for 2nd place but dropped a few spots shooting a team score of 309 for the second day in a row.  Niklas Koerner was the low scorer for the group shooting a 75 on day two.

The Spartans finished the opening round in a three way tie with Wilmington and Charleston and just three strokes behind the leaders Indiana University of PA.  Wilmington shot a second round team score of 292 to take the lead.  Millersville University also had a strong second round, with a team score of 295, moving them 2-strokes ahead of STAC and into the 5th place spot.  

Kai Rastetter shot a 76 in his second round putting him tied for 13th place overall.  Chris Gentle and Kevin Gately carded a 78 and 80 respectively.  The Spartans will tee off on Wednesday afternoon for their final round.  

At a minimum, the top three teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from 
each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the finals May 18-22, at Rock Barn Golf & 
Spa in Conover, North Carolina.

The remaining eight team berths will be allocated based on the regions represented in the prior year's medal-match portion of the championships, with the maximum number of teams from a given region capped at seven. The finals will be hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University.

STAC has participated in the NCAA Division II golf championship finals five out of the last six years.
