Spartans Compete at Franklin Pierce Invitational

The St. Thomas Aquinas men’s golf team started their season with a 6th place finish at the Franklin Pierce Invitational this past weekend in Keene, NH. The Spartans shot a 2-day score of 616 (+40) which was 19 shots off of the winning score by co-champions SNHU and FPU.

On day 1 the Spartans were paced by junior Travis Fay and freshman Jake Yarmolowitz who carded solid rounds of 76. Senior Tom Holmes struggled in his first round of competition shooting a 9-over par 81, while Shkelqim Kukaj and Glenn Watson shot rounds of 82. The team’s first round score of 315 was good for 6th place after day 1.

During the second round of play the Spartans had a much more steady round. Travis Fay led the team with a stellar even par 72. Tom Holmes fought back nicely in his second round of play and battled for a 1-over 73. Jake Yarmolowitz was able to post another solid round of 76, while Kukaj and Watson carded rounds of 80. The Spartans final round score of 301 was the 4th best round of the day, but was not enough to jump them over any of the team ahead of them.

The team is back in action this weekend at the Penmen Invitational at Dartmouth Golf CLub in New Hampshire.
