Yarmolowitz Wins First Collegiate Event; Spartans Conclude Fall Season with 1st Place Finish

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's golf team finished their fall on a high note with a first place finish at the Vulcan Invitational. The event was held at Totteridge Golf Club, the site of this year's East/Atlantic Super Regional tournament.

On the first day of competition freshman Jake Yarmolowitz played the best round of his young career carding the low round of the tournament with a 3 under 69. Yarmolowitz played a spectacular round of golf carding five birdies and an eagle which was good for the lead after round one. Travis Fay and Shkelqim Kukaj posted matching 75's while Tom Holmes and Joe Tammaro shot 78 and 83 respectively. The Spartans first round score of 297 was good for 2nd place behind Franklin Pierce University.

During the final round, the course played extremely difficult because of gusting winds a periods of heavy rain. As all the teams struggled in the conditions, the Spartans held it together behind some gritty play. Travis Fay led the team in the final round with a hard fought 75. After making par on holes one and two, Fay made triple on his 3rd hole after a lost ball. Fay managed to par his final 15 holes to shoot the low round of the day for the Spartans. Fay's 2 day score of 150 (75-75) earned him a T3 finish.

Entering the final round with a lead, Yarmolowitz was able to grind out a round of 76. After going to 3 over through his first six holes, Yarmolowitz made back to back birdies on his 7th and 8th holes. With three scattered bogeys after that, Yarmolowitz was able to finish the day with a 76 and a 2 day score of 145 (69-76) earning him his first career victory.

Joe Tammaro and Shkelqim Kukaj rounded out the team scoring with rounds of 78 and 82 respectively leaving the team with a final round score of 311. Their two days score of 608 was good for a first place finish with The College of Charleston.
