Yarmolowitz leads Spartans to Victory at Dominican Charger Spring Classic

The St. Thomas Aquinas men’s golf team took home first place honors at the Dominican College Charger Spring Classic this past weekend. The team was led by freshman Jake Yarmolowitz who earned medalist honors with a 36-hole score of 1 under par (69-74).

During the first round of play the Spartans posted a team score of 295 which was good for a 3 shot lead over Concordia College and a 5 shot lead over Dominican College. Freshman Jake Yarmolowitz was the low score of the day with a sensational 3 under par 69. Junior Travis Fay was able to card a solid round of 72 while Shkelqim Kukaj posted a steady round of 76. Rounding out the team scoring was freshman Joe Tammaro who shot 78 while senior Tom Holmes posted a 79.

During the second round of play conditions became extremely difficult. Temperatures dropped and winds picked up to over 20mph. Yarmolowitz battled all day and managed to card an impressive round of 74. Travis Fay and Shkelqim Kukaj also grinded out rounds of 74 while Holmes and Tammaro carded rounds of 80 and 81 respectively. The team's final round score of 302 was good for a 2 shot victory over the host from Dominican College.  

The team is back in action next weekend at the Barry University “Battle at the Shores” event. This tournament hosts some of the top Division II teams in the country and will be a great test for the team.
