Spartans Two Shots Back After First Round Play

The St. Thomas Aquinas men’s golf team sits just two shots back of the leaders in 4th place after the first round of play at the SNHU Penmen Invitational. The team was led by junior Travis Fay who continued his steady play in the 2018 season with a stellar round of 71. Fay had a round that included 15 pars, 1 birdie and 2 bogeys good for 6th place after round one.

Junior Shkelqim Kukaj grinded out an impressive round of 72. Kukaj found himself four over par after eleven holes but managed to play his last 7 holes at two under to leave him tied for 12th after the first day. Freshman Jake Yarmolowitz battled to a six over par 76 while Jack Phillips and Tom Holmes posted 78 and 79 respectively.

The team’s day one score of 297 is only two shots behind the leaders SNHU and FPU. The Spartans are back in action tomorrow for the final round of play starting at 9am.
