Spartans Golf Wins Le Moyne College Mike Bello Invitational to Open 2021 Spring Season

After 532 days without a competition, the St. Thomas Aquinas Men’s Golf team opened their 2021 Spring Season on Monday with a 2-shot victory at the Le Moyne College Mike Bello Invitational. The 1-day, 36 hole event was played at Timber Banks Country Club in Baldwinsville, NY in cool and rainy conditions. 

First round play was lead by senior Sean Trapp and sophomore Norman Viron who both carded excellent rounds of 70 (-2). Junior Jake Yarmolowitz was able to card a round of 77 with junior Joe Tammaro posting a 78. Rounding out the scoring was graduate student Shkelqim Kukaj who shot a round of 80. After a solid team score of 295, the team sat 3 shots ahead of Bentley University.

During the second round of play, the rain intensified, but the Spartans were able to maintain their solid play. Bouncing back from his tough first round, Shkelqim Kukaj was able to card a 1-under par 71. Also improving on his first round play was Joe Tammaro, who fired a round of 73. Sean Trapp was able to card a 77, while Jake Yarmolowitz and Norman Viron each posted rounds of 79. The team’s second round score of 300 was good enough for a 2 shot victory over the hosts, Le Moyne College who were able to shoot a spectacular final round of 292.

STAC is back in action on Wednesday, April 14 for 36 holes at the College of Saint Rose Invitational, which will take place at the Pinehaven Country Club in Guilderland, NY.
