Spartan Golf Finishes 4th at Mercyhurst University Regional Preview, Viron Finishes 2nd

The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Golf team headed to Erie, PA for the Mercyhurst University Regional Preview at Lake View Country Club and finished in 4th place among the 10 teams participating. After a rained out practice round, the Spartans struggled during the first round of play. Sophomore Norman Viron led the team with a round of 76. After making a triple bogey on his first hole of the day, Viron played the next 17 at 1-over par. Senior Sean Trapp was next best on the team with a round of 78 while Joseph Tammaro was able to card a 79. Jake Yarmolowitz and Shkelqim Kukaj struggled in their first round, posting rounds of 84 and 85 respectively. The team’s first round score of 317 left them in a tie for 9th place.

During the second round of play every member of the team was able to improve on their score from round 1. Leading the charge was Norman Viron who played an excellent second round, carding an even par 72. Sean Trapp made up two shots, firing a 76 while Shkelqim Kukaj improved 9 shots from his first round, shooting a 76 as well. Junior Jake Yarmoloqitz was able to shave 7 shots off his first round score, carding a 77 while Joseph Tammaro posted a round of 79. The team was able to improve 16 shots overall, posting a second round score of 301 which was good for a 4th place finish.

Lake View Country Club is the host course for the 2021 NCAA East/Atlantic Super Regional tournament on May 6-8. The Spartans are awaiting the selection committee’s decision for the ranking heading into Regionals.

The Spartans finish the regular season on Tuesday, April 20 with a 36-hole match against Concordia College at Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, NY.
