STAC Golf Earns 4th Place Finish at Saint Leo Griffin Invitational

The St. Thomas Aquinas Golf team finished 4th in “The Griffin Invitational” hosted by Saint Leo University. Playing 36 holes on the first day of competition, the team posted scores of 309 and 302. During the first round of play the team was led by freshman Tanner Little who carded a solid round of 75 after four bogeys and one birdie. Fellow freshman Nolan Skaggs played a steady round of golf shooting 77, while senior Joseph Tammaro battled to post a 78.  Jake Yarmolowitz and Norman Viron rounded out the team scoring shooting rounds of 79 and 81 respectively. 

During the second round of play seniors Tammaro and Yarmolowitz bounced back nicely, carding rounds of 73 and 74 respectively. Freshman Tanner Little continued his solid play posting a round of 76, while Nolan Skaggs battled to shoot 79 after a very difficult start to his round. Viron struggled during the second round shooting 88. Playing as an individual, newcomer Donte Droppuso shot rounds of 75 and 83. The team found themselves tied for 4th place with Virginia Union and Fayetteville State after the first day of competition. 

During the final round, the Spartans were led by Tanner Little who carded a round of 74. Nolan Skaggs and Jake Yarmolowitz played solid rounds of golf shooting rounds of 75 and 76. Junior Norman Viron bounced back with a nice round of 77, while Joseph Tammaro managed to shoot a round of 80. Donte Groppuso played his best collegiate round for the Spartans shooting a stellar round of 71. The team’s final round score of 302 separated them from Virginia Union and Fayetteville leaving them in solo 4th place for the event.

STAC is back in action October 3 and 4 at the Hal Hansen Invitational hosted by Clarion University in Grove City, Pa.
