Spartan Golf Finishes 4th at Division I Columbia University Spring Invitational

Kingston, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas Golf team put together another strong performance at the Roar-EE Invitational hosted by Columbia University at Wiltwyck Country Club in Kingston, NY. The Spartans were the lone Division II program in the strong field of DI teams in the event. Scheduled to be 36 holes, the event was shortened to one day after strong storms rolled in during the second round of play.

During the first round, all five members of the team played steady golf. Nolan Skaggs, Djaia Darrason, Tanner Little and Juan Ignacio Simon all carded even par rounds of 72. Donte Groppuso was just 1 shot behind them with a solid round of 73. The team’s score of 288 (Even Par) left them in 4th place, just 7 shots behind Holy Cross and 6 shots behind Penn and Cornell. The Spartans excellent golf was good enough to finish ahead of 8 other Division I programs including Sacred Heart, Columbia, Dartmouth and Sienna.

The team wraps up their spring regular season on April 24-25 at the East/Atlantic Regional Preview at the Iron Valley Golf Club in Lebanon, Pa., which is the home of the 2023 NCAA East/Atlantic Regional tournament in May.
