Warren, Ohio - St. Thomas Aquinas golfer Donte Groppuso shot a 76 in his opening round of the 2023 NCAA Division II National Championship at the Avalon Lakes Golf Club in the Buckeye State. Groppuso shot three over on the front nine and one over on the back nine to put him at four-over par for the day and tied for 60th place.
After paring his first hole to start the tournament, Groppuso alternated birdies and bogies in holes two through six. He ran into some trouble on the seventh hole where he recorded a double bogie, to put him at +3. The junior from Kingston, N.Y. maintained his 3-over par status until the 13th hole, where he again bogied to put himself at four over, which was where he finished through the end of the first round.
Groppuso will tee off day two of the championship at 1:55 p.m. EDT on Tuesday (May 23), starting on hole 1.
