Groppuso Moves Into Top 30 with Outstanding Second Round At NCAA Golf Championship

Warren, Ohio - St. Thomas Aquinas golfer Donte Groppuso shot a 70 in his second round of the 2023 NCAA Division II National Championship at the Avalon Lakes Golf Club in the Buckeye State. Groppuso shot one-under par on the front nine and repeated that same performance on the back nine to put him at two-under par for the day, moving him up 31 spots on the leaderboard to share the 29th position with 10 other collegiate competitors and hold a +2 overall score.

After paring his first two holes to start the second day of the tournament, Groppuso eagled the par-5 third hole to put him at 2-under par. The junior from Kingston, N.Y. went on to shoot par on holes 4 through 8, but bogied on the ninth hole, ending his front nine at 1-under par. The start of the back nine saw Groppuso bogie the tenth hole, but he recovered on hole 11 with a birdie to return him to his -1 score. On the twelfth and thirteenth holes Donte shot for par, while birdieing the fourteenth, to bring him back to 2-under par. On his last four holes (15-18), Groppuso maintained his -2 score by shooting par on each.

Donte Groppuso will tee off on the final day of the championship's 54-hole stroke play at 8:58 a.m. EDT on Wednesday (May 24), starting on hole 1.
