Donte Groppuso Punches Ticket to NCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championship

Lebanon, Pa. - St. Thomas Aquinas College junior Donte Groppuso punched his ticket to the NCAA Division II National Championship on Saturday, winning the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Super Regional Tournament at the Iron Valley Golf Club.

Groppuso maintainted the top individual spot throughout the tournament and finished at -4 (212) over 54 holes. He shot 69 on day one, 69 on day two, and 74 on day three.

The top three teams and the top two individuals on non-advancing teams qualified for the NCAA Championship. Tyler Birdd (E/216) of Le Moyne College joins Groppuso in the finals, along with members of the Davis and Elkins, Fayetteville State and Indiana (Pennsylvania) golf teams.

STAC finished fifth in the three-day super regional, with a team score of 903 (+39). Djaia Darrason 230/+14 (T41), Nolan Skaggs 233/+ 17 (T53), Juan Ignacio Simon 234/+18 (T59) and Tanner Little 234/+18 (T59) rounded out the Spartans scoring.

The National Championship will take place from May 22-26 at Avalon Lakes Country Club in Warren, Ohio.
