Men’s Golf Closes Fall with Victory at Adelphi Panther Invitational

Jericho, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas men's golf team wrapped up their fall slate on Thursday with a victory at the Adelphi University Panther Invitational at the beautiful Meadow Brook Club in Jerricho, NY. The event was a 1-day 36-hole tournament and conditions couldn't have been nicer. During the opening 18 holes, the team was led by Juan Ignacio Simon who fired an impressive round of 69 (-2). Simon played steady golf all round and finished by making birdie on his final 2 holes. Tanner Little, Nolan Skaggs and Djaia Darrason all managed to shoot rounds of 75 while freshman Diego Ocasio carded a round of 76. The Spartans opening round score of 294 left them in first place, just 4 shots ahead of the host Adelphi Panthers.

During the second and final round of play, the team got off to a rough start, playing their first 3 holes at 8 over par as a team. After a few big birdies, the team settled into their round and played some solid golf. Djaia Darrason was the low Spartan in round two, shooting an even par 71. Tanner Little was the next best score at 74, while Nolan Skaggs and Juan Ignacio Simon posted scores of 76. Diego Ocasio wrapped up the event shooting 79. The team's final round 297 was good enough to capture first place, narrowly beating out Adelphi on their home track.

The team wraps up their fall campaign with one tournament victory, one runner-up and one third place finish. As a team they maintained a 294.46 scoring average over their 13 competitive rounds of golf.
