Spartans Begin Leaderboard Climb on Day Two of NCAA Division II Golf Championship

Winter Garden, Fla. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Golf team moved up the leaderboard during second round action of the NCAA Division II Golf Championship on Wednesday at the Orange County National Golf Center. The Spartans carded a team score of 290 for the day, which was 6-over par and places them 18th among the 20-team field. Through 36 holes STAC holds a team score of 589 and is 21-over par.

Freshman Diego Ocasio (70) led the team for the day and is currently tied for 46th place overall among individual players, with a two-day score of 144. Teammate Tanner Little (74) also holds a spot at No. 46, while Nolan Skaggs (71/T76th), Djaia Darrason (75/T99th) and Juan Ignacio Simon (75/T101st) round out the Spartans scoring on day two.

STAC will tee off beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday (May 23), as the final round of stroke play gets underway in Winter Garden, Florida. Following 54 holes of stroke play, an individual champion will be declared along with finishers 2-10 based on cumulative total score and any applicable tiebreakers. The top eight teams after 54 holes of play will be placed into a bracket and seeded based on 54-hole scores. The pairings for the quarterfinals (Friday, May 24) will be Seed #1 versus Seed #8, Seed #2 versus Seed #7, Seed #3 versus Seed #6 and Seed #4 versus Seed #5, competing in head-to-head medal play (stroke play over 18 holes and low score wins).
