Men’s Golf Opens Season with Ninth place Finish at Granite Opener

Concord, N.H. - The St. Thomas Aquinas Men's Golf team opened their fall season with a 9th place finish at the Granite Opener hosted by Southern New Hampshire. In their first event, the team struggled to shake off the rust, shooting team scores of 301-302 at Beaver Meadow Golf Course in the Concord, N.H.  

During a wet and windy first round at the Granite Opener, the team was led by Nolan Skaggs who carded 2 birdies and 2 bogeys for an even par 72. Juan Ignacio Simon was right behind him with a solid round of 74, while Tanner Little was able to shoot 77. Rounding out the team scoring was Mario Mojarro and newcomer Diego Ocasio who both managed to shoot rounds of 78. 

In the final round of play, Juan Ignacio Simon was the lone Spartan to shoot under par, making 3 birdies and 2 bogeys enroute to a 1-under par 71.  Freshman Diego Ocasio improved on his opening round with a stellar 1-over par 73 while Nolan Skaggs continued his solid play shooting 73. Tanner Little and Mario Mojarro Monge struggled during their final rounds, shooting 83 and 84 respectively.

The Spartans team score of 603 (301-302) left them in 9th place out of the 13 team field. STAC is back in action next Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 25-26) at the SNHU Penmen Invitational.
