Men’s Golf Finishes Second at Penmen Invitational

Concord, N.H. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Golf team rebounded nicely after a difficult opening tournament at the Penmen Invitational hosted by Southern New Hampshire at the difficult Concord Country Club. The tournament was a 54-hole event played over 2 days in Concord, N.H.

Leading the team was Tanner Little who played 3 excellent rounds of golf. Little opened the morning 18 with a steady round of 73. In his second 18 of the day, Little exploded for a career low round of 66. Little's final round of 73 was good for a 54-hole score of +2 leaving him in 4th place finish among the 81 player field. 

Junior Nolan Skaggs wasn't far behind Little with a 3-round score of +6 for the tounament. Skaggs opened with a round 76, but was able to follow that up with a superb round of 67. Skaggs final round score of 73 left was good enough for a 7th place finish in the event.

Freshman Diego Ocasio continued his solid start to his Spartan career. The newcomer contributed to the team scoring with all 3 of his rounds posting scores of 72-73 and 78. Ocasio's strong play earned him a 27th place finish.

Juan Ignacio Simon played steady golf all weekend posting rounds of 72-76 and 77. Simon's total score of +15 for the 3 rounds left him in 36th place for the tournament.

Freshman Noah Barnatt saw his first action of the season. Battling some nerves, Barnatt was able to card an opening round of 79. After settling in, the newcomer was able to help pick the team up with a solid round of 73 in his 2nd 18 of the day. Barnatt struggled under difficult conditions in the final round, shooting 85. His 3-day score was good enough to leave him in 66th out of the 81 players in the field. 

As a team, the Spartans put up a team score of 873 (293-279-301) which was good enough for a 2nd place finish behind the team champions from Post. The Spartans put up their first under par team score during the 2nd round of play, shooting 1-under as a team. The boys are back in action this weekend (Sept. 30-Oct. 1) at the Autumn Invitational hosted by Columbia University at the beautiful Lake Placid Club in Lake Placid, NY.
