
Campbell Hall, N.Y. - The St Thomas Aquinas Men's Golf team earned their second victory of the season with a convincing 38 shot victory on Monday afternoon at the Spartan Shootout, which was contested at The Country Club at Otterkill in Orange County. The highlight of the day was the playoff between Seniors Nolan Skaggs and Tanner Little after both shot amazing round of -7 for 36 holes. Skaggs earned his first collegiate victory after winning on the first hole capping off a phenomenal day of golf for the Spartans who posted 2 consecutive team scores of 10 under par.
During the first round of play, Skaggs led the charge posting a tournament low score of 68 (-4) behind 6 birdies and 2 bogeys. Tanner Little and Djaia Darrason were right behind Skaggs, each shooting brilliant rounds of 69 (-3), while Diego Ocasio rounded out the team scoring with a staff round of 72. The teams scoring of 278 (-10) was good for an 19 shot lead over Felician University.
In second round action, senior Tanner Little played wonderfully and matched Skaggs' first round 68 behind 7 birdies and 3 bogeys. Finishing right behind him were Nolan Skaggs and Noah Barnatt who both carded excellent rounds of 69. This was Barnatt's first under par collegiate round. Diego Ocasio continued his steady play firing another even par round of 72. The teams score of 278 (-10) was good for a total score of 556 (-20) and a 38 shot victory. This was the second lowest 36-hole team score in the Spartans illustrious history.
STAC is back in action this weekend at the Roar-EE hosted by Columbia University at the Wiltwyck Golf Club in Kingston, New York. The team finished in 3rd place last season in this event.
