Stephen Ferrara enters his 18th year as the head men’s golf coach at St. Thomas Aquinas College.  Prior to taking over the team, Ferrara was a 4-year starter on the men’s soccer team at SUNY New Paltz. It wasn’t until his junior year in college that coach Ferrara started playing golf. After a year of learning the game, Ferrara took his game to the next level and started working at Minisceongo Golf Club in Pomona, NY. It was there that he learned various teaching skills and became a scratch golfer.

Prior to his coaching at St. Thomas Aquinas, Ferrara was an accomplished soccer coach on the high school and travel level. He was a varsity trainer at Albertus Magnus HS for 3 years and was able to help bring the team to two state tournaments. During this time coach Ferrara also coached a premier level travel team for North Rockland. His team saw great success and was also one of the top ranked teams in New York State.

Since taking over the men’s golf team in 2006, Ferrara has seen a great deal of success. Over the past 15 years he has earned over 1100 head to head collegiate wins and captured 48 tournament victories. Coach Ferrara has also been named East Region Coach of the Year on 6 different occasions. Beside his personal accolades, coach Ferrara is most proud of his players’ accomplishments. Over the past fifteen years 40 players have earned All-Region selections and 14 players have been named Academic All-American winners.

The team has also been selected to play in 15 straight NCAA East/Atlantic Super Regional events.  In 2011, his squad recorded a school record team score of 280 (8 under par) enroute to the school’s first ever Regional tournament victory. Ferrara’s 2013-2014 team went on to break that record when they recorded an incredible team score of 273 (-11) during the second round of the 2014 Super Regional. During the 2016-2017 season, the Spartans set multiple team records recording consecutive rounds of 276 (-12) for a 2-day score of 552 (-24) at the FPU Invitational. On top of their regional success, the team has advanced to 8 NCAA Division II National Championship tournaments under Ferrara in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2021

On a personal level, coach Ferrara lives in Campbell Hall, NY with his wife Lauren and their two children Luca and Greyson.
