
The St. Thomas Aquinas men's basketball team beat Mercy College, 72-60. Justin Brown and Jamie Blanchard scored 19 and 18 points respectively for the Spartans. Brown and Blanchard also led STAC on the glass with 8 and 7 rebounds. Nick Lopez and Daniel Skinner each added 8 points while Skinner dished out 5 assists.
Mercy got out to an 8-3 lead to start the game. The Spartans used an 8-2 run of their own to take an 11-10 lead and did not trail for the rest of the game. Irin Stark hit a jumper at the 4:34 mark to give STAC a 29-18 lead. Blanchard's layup to end the first half gave STAC a 35-20 lead at the break.
Dane Dixon scored a layup to give STAC their largest lead of the day, 60-36 with 7:55 to go. The Spartans had ten players score in the game with Jason Halloway scoring 5 points and Kadeem King and Shaun Weaver each chipped in 4. STAC edged Mercy on the boards, 39-35. Dixon and Weaver each grabbed 3 rebounds for STAC.
The Spartans will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to C.W. Post.
