After a convincing victory in their season opener Tuesday night, the St. Thomas Aquinas College men's basketball team hopes lightning will strike twice when they travel to the Dominican College Tournament this weekend. The Spartans will face a rematch of their opening night tilt when they square off with Nyack College on Friday, 11/18 at 5:30, and the hosts from nearby Orangeburg on Saturday at 7:30.

The Spartans took full advantage of home court in their season opener, outduelng rival Nyack by a score of 82-66. Justin Brown led the way for STAC, pacing all scorers with 19 points while Nick Lopez added 18 in a balanced effort. Eleven different Spartans hit the scoresheet, with Brown (8-for-15 from the field), Lopez (6-11), and Omar Kellman (11 points, 4-4 shooting) setting the pace. Lopez was also strong on the glass with nine boards, and STAC recorded 17 assists overall to just 12 turnovers on the evening.

St. Thomas Aquinas enters the tourney opener with a 1-0 record, while Nyack comes in at 0-3. Dominican opens their event against East Coast Conference opponent Molloy, and the Chargers stand at 2-0 after an impressive pair of victories over Assumption College and the hosts at last weekend's Pace University Tournament.

Friday's game marks the first of a tough five-game road swing for STAC's men's squad before they return to Aquinas Hall. The Spartans travel to Pennsylvania to face East Stroudsburg University on Tuesday, November 22; proceed to face legendary Coach Herb Magee's Philadelphia University on Sunday, November 27; and take the turnpike south to meet Wilmington University in Delaware on Wednesday, November 30. They return to Sparkill to host Queens College in their East Coast Conference opener on Wednesday, December 7. Tip-off time for that game is set for 7:30 pm after the women's contest, and both games will be carried live on New Media Television Sports.
